Other Options
Next to ordering an original painting, you may opt to purchase a giclee. Giclees are produced in co-operation with Re-Art, Almere. (see below for an explanation on giclees)
Should you be attracted to the style and techniques used, but you desire a different colour and or style you could also consider to order a painting which will customized to you wishes.
Of course, the artistic freedom needs to be respected; experience shows however both parties can come to a satisfactory creation of a customized piece of art, be it an original or a giclee.
Should you so consider, please contact us.
A giclee (zhee-clay) is an individually produced, high-resolution, high-fidelity reproduction done on a special large format printer. Giclees are produced from digital scans of existing artwork. Giclees can be printed on any number of media, from canvas to watercolour paper to transparent acetates. Giclees are superior to traditional lithography in several ways. The
colours are brighter, last longer, and are so high-resolution that they are virtually continuous tone, rather than tiny dots. The range, or "gamut" of colour for giclees is far beyond that of lithography, and details are crisper.
Lithography uses tiny dots of four colours--cyan, magenta, yellow and black--to fool the eye into seeing various hues and shades. Colours are "created" by printing different size dots of these four colours. Giclees use inkjet technology, but far more sophisticated than your desktop printer. The process employs six colours--light cyan, cyan, light magenta, magenta, yellow and black--of lightfast, pigmented inks and finer, more numerous, and replaceable print heads resulting in a wider colour
gamut, and the ability to use various media to print on. The ink is sprayed onto the page, actually mixing the colour on the page to create true shades and hues. Giclees were originally developed as a proofing system for lithograph printing presses, but it became apparent that the presses were having a hard time delivering the quality and colour of the giclee proofs. They evolved into the new darlings of the art world. They are coveted by collectors for their fidelity and quality, and desired by galleries because they don't have to be produced in huge quantities with their large layout of capital and storage.
The Advantages: Giclee prints are advantageous to artists who do not find it feasible to mass produce their work, but want to reproduce their art as needed, or on-demand. Once an image is digitally archived, additional reproductions can be made with minimal effort and reasonable cost. The prohibitive up-front cost of mass production for an edition is eliminated.
Archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently do. Another tremendous advantage of giclee printing is that digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client.
The Quality: The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatine printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
